One Great Program – Two Great Locations!
Med-Start is a summer academic enrichment program for any 11th grade Arizona high school student interested in a health career. Students participate in the program during the summer between their junior and senior years. Med-Start, sponsored by the Office of Outreach and Multicultural Affairs in the College of Medicine, was created in 1969 to help improve healthcare in rural, reservation, and economically disadvantaged areas through the recruitment and training of students from these regions.
Med-Start helps young people prepare for their future in the health professions by exploring career opportunities and providing college level coursework in English and science.
Med-Start Tucson
The Med-Start Tucson Summer Program, coordinated by the Office of Outreach and Multicultural Affairs, is a six-week academic enrichment and health career exploration program for high school students between their junior and senior year.
Med-Start Tucson offers:
College level English course (elective college credit)
Introduction to Chemistry Lab (college credit)
Hands-on presentations and demonstrations
Special lectures on health careers
Live on the University of Arizona campus
Tours of health care and research facilities
Med-Start Phoenix
The Med-Start Phoenix Summer Program, coordinated by the Office of Outreach and Multicultural Affairs, is a five-week academic enrichment and health career exploration program for high school students between their junior and senior year.
Med-Start Phoenix offers:
College-level English course (elective college credit)
Introduction to Healthcare Fundamentals course (college credit)
Clinical skills training
Special lectures on health careers
Tours of health care and research facilities
